FW comment: Wikipedia provides a brief but useful summary of the backdrop to these events:
As
a result of economic stagnation during the COVID-19 pandemic in Peru,
between ten and twenty percent of Peruvians entered into poverty in
2020, reversing a decade of poverty reduction in the country and
resulting with a poverty rate of 30.1% that year. According to the
Institute of Economics and Business Development (IEDEP) of the Lima
Chamber of Commerce, the country's middle class shrank by almost half
from 43.6% in 2019 to 24% in 2020 due to the crisis. Following the
global economic reverberations resulting from Western-led sanctions
against Russia due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine beginning in
February 2022, inflation in Peru was greatly exacerbated. By April 2022,
the inflation rate in Peru rose to its highest level in 26 years,
creating greater difficulties on the recently impoverished population.
Inflation poses severe challenges for emerging market economies.
The latest example is in Peru, where social unrest spreads across the
country, forcing the government to impose a curfew in the capital, Lima,
on Tuesday, according to Reuters.
"The cabinet has agreed to declare a ban on the mobility of citizens from
2 a.m. through 11:59 p.m. of Tuesday, April 5, to protect the
fundamental rights of all people," Peruvian President Pedro Castillo
said in a live broadcast last night.
The South
American country was already struggling before commodity prices jumped
to record highs because of the Ukraine invasion and virus pandemic
supply chain disruptions. Social unrest began last month as
demonstrations led by farmers and truckers have intensified over soaring
food, fuel, and fertilizer prices.
Days ago, Peru Finance
Minister Oscar Graham reduced the consumption tax for fuel and basic
food items, hoping it would quell protests.
This all comes as
Peru's annual inflation hit 6.82% in March from a year earlier, the most
since August 1998. April's number is expected to top 7%.

Higher
commodity prices, pushing up overall inflation, is metastasizing into a
political crisis for Castillo, whose slumping popularity could fall
even faster. Castillo has also called in the military to control violent
protests.
"This strike isn't happening just here, it's all over Peru," one unnamed protester told Reuters.

Besides tax cuts, the government has desperately raised the minimum wage by about 10% to about $322 per month.
As
the situation worsens in Peru, none of this should be surprising to
readers. We've explained that social unrest in emerging market economies
was inevitable due to the rapidly rising cost of everything.
...
and it's just not Peru that is being impacted by inflationary forces on
the continent but every country in South America. The continent is a
ticking time bomb for unrest.
We've also outlined countries outside South America that could be prone to unrest due to inflation and food shortages.
Toddlers are lumped in threes or fours on adult hospital beds in one ward, crying out for attention with no adults around.
In another room, the size of a large conference hall, long stretches
of beds lined up from wall to wall, with only a few adults trying to
soothe the wailing babies who far outnumbered them.
In a third snapshot of a Shanghai hospital, a groaning boy in green shirt makes his way out of a small room with five other children of his age in teetering steps, into a hallway where bags of trash have been piled up.
Similar photos and footage have been circulating online, shared by
frantic parents in Shanghai who have had their children forcibly taken
away from them as they quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19.
The accounts of forced separation have shocked the country, with
families across China now worrying whether they will be the next to go
through such painful separations under the regime’s tough COVID-19
measures.
“May I ask who will not have a breakdown when they see this?” a
mother surnamed Zhu, whose two-year-old daughter was placed in the
Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center in Jinshan district where the
videos allegedly emerged, told The Epoch Times.
Shanghai, China’s wealthiest and most populous city, is in the middle
of China’s largest citywide lockdown in a bid to tame the Omicron
variant-fueled outbreak. The restrictions came even as some Chinese
officials repeatedly dismissed such measures as being too costly.
The day before the lockdown, officials had said that they weren’t
considering taking such a step. The abrupt reversal in policy caught the
city’s 26 million residents off-guard. Unprepared and in a panic,
locals plucked store shelves bare in the hopes of getting enough food to sustain themselves for an unknown length of time. Meanwhile, patients in critical condition have been calling for help online in the hopes of getting needed care.
Across China, government mandates require anyone with a positive
COVID-19 test result and their close contacts be taken away for
quarantine regardless of the severity of their symptoms. As of March 26,
at least 305 infected children under six have been placed in government
quarantine centers, with a great majority of them being asymptomatic,
according to city health officials.
But the plight of the children in the videos is a far cry from the
assurances given by the authorities, who promised parents that their
sick children taken for quarantine would be “well taken care of” in
rooms decorated with cartoon designs, along with toys and supplies for
drawing and handicrafts.
One mother, using the alias Zhao Qian, told Chinese state-run
magazine China Philanthropist that roughly every 10 minors are cared for
by only one nurse.
“How can they possibly manage such a workload?” Zhao asked, adding
that a lack of transparency from the hospitals has been frustrating. The
government-affiliated Shanghai Women’s Federation on Saturday told the
magazine that they were looking into the issue.

‘Please Send My Daughter Back’
Before her toddler daughter was transferred to Jinshan, Zhu had been
staying together with her in Shanghai Tongren Hospital after they both
tested positive for COVID-19 about a week ago. She had a light cough
while her daughter was asymptomatic. Three days later, they were told
they would be sent to different facilities: she would be sent to a
makeshift hospital and her daughter to the Shanghai Public Health
Clinical Center.
Zhu pleaded to accompany her child but to no avail. If she refused, a
doctor told her in a phone call, she would be “thrown into the
makeshift hospital” while her daughter would stay behind at Tongren. She
had no choice but to acquiesce, she said.

After her daughter was sent away, the panicked mother repeatedly
asked for updates from hospital staff in a group chat that had other
parents. She wanted to know whether her baby had a fever or not, and if
she was taking her medicine. The workers, to both questions, replied
that her daughter was “fine.”
“Everyone was telling me that the Jinshan hospital was the best
facility for children’s care and that I should set my mind at ease,” Zhu
said, sobbing.
She said the videos put an end to all her illusions.
“Please send my daughter back. I have no trust in them whatsoever
right now,” she said. “With so many children and not enough healthcare
workers, you still want to take my daughter away rather than having her
mother take care of her? What is the city government thinking?”
Zhu’s husband also became sick and was sent to another makeshift
hospital where he has been receiving some traditional Chinese herbal
remedy.
But he is an adult, Zhu said. It pained her to think that her
two-year-old would find no familiar faces around when she wakes up each
morning.
“My daughter has been sent to a place where I don’t even know how well she sleeps,” she said.
Hospital Responds
The hospital on Saturday released a statement in response to parents’
concerns following the viral videos. It said staff were in the process
of transferring the children to an expanded facility that formerly
provided emergency outpatient care.
A worker from the hospital who answered the phone on Saturday
declined to say how many children were being quarantined at the center.
“The hospital has made a response. It will improve,” the worker told The Epoch Times.
She hung up when asked about the sanitation concerns and whether the
separation of minors from their guardians constitutes a breach of law.

‘It Broke My Heart’
Zeng Qun, the deputy director of the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau,
acknowledged that “heart-wrenching” separations may happen in the event
that parents fall sick or are prevented from going home due to the
government’s lockdown rules. He said that local authorities have
arranged for designated children welfare workers to provide assistance
at the district and township level.
On China’s popular microblogging site Weibo, where a hashtag on the
topic is viewed 130 million times a day, more Shanghai parents have
shared their stories of forced separation. Some children separated from
their parents have been as young as three months old.
One mother said her three-year-old child was taken from her for 16
days. Her child was also receiving care at the Jinshan center, where the
toddler developed a high fever of 104 Fahrenheit due to hospital
neglect and was coughing nonstop, the mother said.
Another reported that her hospital had been uncommunicative about her
son—not yet two—for four straight days and only sent her one photo on
Saturday.
“His eyes were full of tears,” she wrote. “As a mother, it broke my heart.”
‘Inhumane’
Ou Xi, a pediatrician based in the southern port city of Guangzhou,
said the way the hospital had handled the children in the videos posed
at least five mental and physical health risks.
The toddlers
could fall from the adult beds or get their heads or limbs stuck in the
metal bars of the bed frame, she wrote in an article to her nearly 2.5
million Weibo followers.
Many Weibo users further highlighted one clip where a baby’s entire
head had disappeared under a white blanket. This could be
life-threatening for babies just a few months old who haven’t learned
how to flip themselves over, Ou wrote. The infant could choke from
having fabric pressed against their mouth and nose, she said. Putting
multiple children on the same bed could see them falling on each other,
increasing the risk of suffocation; those who are older may fear that
their parents have abandoned them; and a lack of showering or care could
give rise to skin problems and expose the children to other infectious
diseases, she added.
Only infants needing critical care should be separated from their parents, the pediatrician said.

A human rights lawyer from southern China, who asked to have his name
withheld for safety reasons, was angry upon learning of the children’s
situation.
“For the authorities, containing the outbreak is now above all else,”
he told The Epoch Times, calling the measures “very inhumane.”
“They are using the name of outbreak control to do whatever they
please, without any legal basis,” he said. “This is sabotaging the law
and moral values. It’s creating a humanitarian disaster.”
Other mothers whose children are in the same age group are no less outraged.
“As the mother of a one-year-old, I don’t dare to imagine how these
children—and their parents—get through every day. They are so little!
Who can bear the responsibility if something happens,” one wrote online,
ending her post with multiple exclamation marks.
The Shanghai Municipal Health Commission and Shanghai Municipal
Center for Disease Control & Prevention could not be reached over
the phone on Saturday for comment.
Some 25 months after their infamous Wuhan lockdown, the Chinese
government has launched an even more ambitious lockdown campaign, this
time in Shanghai, the country’s biggest city.
This time, the stakes are even higher.
The Shanghai lockdown is much more ambitious than the Wuhan campaign,
as Shanghai is both bigger in population size and square mileage.
Shanghai is also China’s financial hub, serving as the country’s (and
the world’s) leading manufacturing and industrial city.
The economic ramifications of a potential long term lockdown in
Shanghai will surely be felt worldwide. Coupled with the residual side
effects of the Russia-Ukraine war, this shutdown is sure to add even
more pressure to an unstable global economy.
As video evidence has proven, this is not a mere information
operation. Shanghai is indeed fully locked down, and it has been this
way for several days.
Drone footage shows near-empty highways and quiet streets in the Pudong district of Shanghai, which began its staggered lockdown on Monday. The shutdown coincides with mass COVID testing across China's largest city. https://t.co/3gG2jbQB43pic.twitter.com/mUJz6KldRE
Now, it’s worth asking if the CCP is attempting a “Wuhan Zombieland”
information op on an even larger scale, or if the Chinese government has
really come to embrace the pseudoscience that is lockdowns, by reading
too much of their own favorable press. That much remains unclear, and
there’s not much we can do at this point other than speculate on the
motives behind the lockdown quackery.
One thing’s for sure: the Shanghai lockdown showcases the horrors of a
governing regime having complete control over a society. Through COVID
Mania, China further reinforced its “social credit” system,
adding more surveillance layers to an already heavily authoritarian
system. Those systems, such as vaccine passports and biometric movement
passes, were not just adopted by China, but countless Western countries,
too.
Due to the scale and scope of the Shanghai lockdowns, the CCP is on
the verge of overseeing a very real humanitarian catastrophe. They’re
already causing a wave of potentially unprecedented starvation, and
engaging in barbarism that includes the culling of domesticated
animals.
The Anci district of Langfang city, in northern China, on Wednesday ordered the “complete culling of indoor animals” of coronavirus patients, the state-run China News Service reported. It’s unknown how many pets were killed. Got to blame something…😔🤬https://t.co/ZqsqVZGBmz
When does this end, and what will be the global reaction to China’s COVID measures?
Hopefully nothing. Thankfully, at least some areas of the world,
particularly the free regions of America, have become wise to the
pseudoscience behind the lockdowns and other “tools” purportedly
designed to stop people from getting sick. However, much of the world
remains propagandized into potentially accepting another round of COVID
tyranny.
China used its early 2020 lockdown as a political weapon to showcase
its apparent political superiority, and the CCP persuaded the West to
adopt similar policies that resulted in economic and humanitarian
disaster.
The Wuhan lockdown lasted only a handful of weeks,
but its declared “success” in defeating COVID convinced the vast
majority of the world to attempt to replicate the severe restrictions.
For two years, China has claimed to have stamped out the coronavirus
with a lockdown + “COVID Zero” policy, but attempts to replicate the
measures have resulted in unprecedented disaster for humanity, as
lockdowns catastrophically failed to stop the spread.
The Shanghai lockdown is poised to have global ripple effects, and
it’s best to keep an eye out for what’s next to come from the regime
that rules China.

"China: COVID stormtroopers force Chinese citizens to get on a bus that will take them to a quarantine camp."
Sri Lanka's president declared a state of
emergency Friday giving sweeping powers to security forces a day after
hundreds tried to storm his house in anger over an unprecedented
economic crisis.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa invoked the tough laws allowing the military to arrest and detain suspects for long periods without trial as demonstrations calling for his ouster spread across the South Asian nation.
The
emergency was declared for "protection of public order and the
maintenance of supplies and services essential to the life of the
community," he said in a proclamation.
The nation of 22 million is
facing severe shortages of essentials, sharp price rises and crippling
power cuts in its most painful downturn since independence from Britain
in 1948.
Police reimposed a nighttime curfew Friday in the Western
Province, which includes the capital Colombo, expanding the no-go zone
from the previous night.
Earlier in the evening, dozens of rights
activists carried handwritten placards and oil lamps in the capital
while demonstrating at a busy intersection.
"Time to quit Rajapaksas," said one placard. "No more corruption, go home Gota," said another, referring to the president.
In
the highland town of Nuwara Eliya, activists blocked the opening of a
flower exhibition by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa's wife, Shiranthi,
police said.
The southern towns of Galle, Matara and Moratuwa
also saw anti-government protests, and similar demonstrations were
reported in the northern and central regions. All held up traffic on
main roads.
'Lunatic, go home'
Thursday night's unrest outside the president's private home saw hundreds of people demand he step down.
People chanted "lunatic, lunatic, go home", before police fired tear gas and used water cannon.
The
crowd turned violent, setting ablaze two military buses, a police jeep,
two patrol motorcycles and a three-wheeler. They also threw bricks at
officers.
At least two protesters were wounded. Police said 53
protesters were arrested, but local media organisations said five news
photographers were also detained and tortured at a local police station,
a charge the government said it will investigate.
The police and military presence was beefed up Friday.
'Terrorists'
Two
government ministers said a major intelligence failure had placed the
lives of the president and his wife in danger on Thursday.
"Both
the president and his wife were at their home when the protests were
going on," Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told reporters in
Colombo, discounting earlier claims that they were away at the time.
"We
had information of a demonstration, but nothing suggesting that it
could turn violent. This is a major intelligence failure."
Transport Minister Dilum Amunugama said "terrorists" were behind the unrest.
Rajapaksa's
office said Friday that the protesters wanted to create an "Arab
Spring" – a reference to anti-government protests in response to
corruption and economic stagnation that gripped the Middle East more
than a decade ago.
One of the president's brothers, Mahinda,
serves as prime minister while the youngest, Basil, is finance minister.
His eldest brother and nephew also hold cabinet positions.
Sri Lanka's predicament has been compounded by the Covid-19 pandemic, which torpedoed tourism and remittances.
Many economists also say the crisis has been exacerbated by government mismanagement and years of accumulated borrowing.
Record inflation
The
latest official data released Friday showed inflation in Colombo hit
18.7 percent in March, the sixth consecutive monthly record. Food prices
soared a record 30.1 percent.
Colombo imposed a broad ban on
imports in March 2020 in a bid to save foreign currency needed to repay
nearly $7.0 billion this year to service its $51 billion debt. Diesel
shortages since Thursday have sparked outrage across Sri Lanka in recent
days, causing protests at empty pumps.
The state electricity
monopoly said it was enforcing a daily 13-hour power cut from Thursday –
the longest ever – because it did not have diesel for generators.
Several state-run hospitals, facing shortages of life-saving medicines, have stopped routine surgeries.
The
government has said it is seeking a bailout from the International
Monetary Fund while asking for more loans from India and China.
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Friday, 25, Telegram Messenger was forced
to sign an agreement to join a program ‘for combating disinformation’,
sponsored by the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE).
The TSE claims there is no way to control the spread of “fake news
and hate messages” in Telegram, unlike other networks cooperating with
Brazilian authorities.
Popular messaging app Telegram should be banned in Brazil after
Brazil’s Supreme Court ruled that the app does not comply with local
authorities when it comes to preventing the sharing of “harmful
content.”
Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram. (Photo internet reproduction)
In order for Telegram, one of Brazil’s most downloaded apps, to
continue operating in the country during the presidential election this
year, it already had to censor 20 Bolsonaro posts.
What qualifies as ‘disinformation’ and ‘fraudulent news’ in the eyes
of the Justices remains to be seen. Critics say it is nothing more than a
fancy word for censorship of dissenting opinions on key political
issues.
We’ve heard it a hundred times before from other countries, right?
But the special thing about the Brazilian case is this: the ‘dissenters’
who should be stopped are the followers of the incumbent president and
those who censor are the judiciary, which is in bed with the opposition.
In other words, the opposition (left) that lost the last elections is
censoring with help of the judiciary those who won the elections.
The banning orders were lifted after Telegram founder Pavel Durov
apologized for his “negligence” in contact with the Supreme Court. The
company approached the high court to say it had carried out part of the
orders issued by a Supreme Court Justice.
Since mid-December, the head of the TSE’s electoral tribunal, Luis
Roberto Barroso, has been trying to meet with Telegram CEO and founder
Pavel Durov to discuss ways to censor content shared on the app but has
received no response.
The TSE has partnered with almost all major social media platforms to
curb what it calls “fake news and the spread of conspiracy theories”
about the legitimacy of the Brazilian electoral system, Barroso said
recently in a statement.
According to critics, the TSE is trying by all means to impose its
official narrative by limiting and controlling the information available
to the public and removing any instruments that do not meet its
demands.
Last week, Telegram was blocked by Federal Supreme Court (STF)
Justice Alexandre de Moraes. In the decision, Moraes had determined that
digital platforms and internet providers should adopt actions to
prevent the application from working.
It is an open secret that Alexandre de Moraes, along with Judge Luis
Roberto Barroso, is one of the biggest opponents of incumbent President
Jair Bolsonaro.
Observers fear that with this measure, the flood gates will be opened
for the Electoral Court (TSE) to condemn to illegality during the
presidential elections all criticism, conversations, and statements
offered by Bolsonarists.
The decision triggered a reaction from Bolsonarists who use the
platform to exchange messages. For President Jair Bolsonaro (PL),
Moraes’ decision was a “crime”.
Consistently demonized by (left-leaning) legacy media, the
Bolsonaristas have proven during the pandemic that they are the only
ones in Brazil to stand for the freedom of the people, especially
freedom of expression, against Covid-19 health tyranny, against
compulsory vaccinations and Covid apartheid, were against mandatory
masks, and are now against the ‘canceling’ of Russia.
Jair Bolsonaro is therefore profoundly hated by the establishment,
most of them left-wing sympathizers, facing not only a hostile press in
his own country but also a Supreme Court allied with the left, which has
seized in a silent power grab de facto government power and is doing
everything it can to bring “their” candidate Lula da Silva to power in
the presidential elections in October.
JAIR BOLSONARO HAS LARGEST TELEGRAM CHANNEL
Telegram is the platform of choice of president Jair Bolsonaro and his supporters for mass communication.
With 1.2 million followers, President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) has the largest Telegram channel in Brazil.
According to Telegram Analytics, Bolsonaro is the politician with the
third most followers worldwide, behind Ukrainian President Volodymyr
Zelensky (1.5 million) and Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov (1.4 million).
LANDMARK PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN FALL 2022
The Brazilian left is de facto the extended arm of the globalists in
Europe and the Anglo-Saxon countries and adheres closely to their
dictates, critics say.
Therefore, who will be the new president of the largest country in
Latin America and the second-largest economy in the Americas in the fall
of 2022 is of crucial strategic importance.
If it is Bolsonaro, one can be sure that the freedom of citizens in
Brazil will continue to be the benchmark for all government actions.
And after it became clear during the pandemic that many countries in
Europe and Anglo-Saxon countries, in general, do not hesitate for a
second to expose their citizens to sometimes downright tyrannical
measures, freedom will probably be one of the most important issues of
the future.
Should the leftist soon-to-be 77-year-old Lula da Silva become
president again, Brazil will once again become a recipient of orders
from the Western powers, as we have known it for decades.
At a time when other major countries of the global South, such as
India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and China, are increasingly going their own
way and trying to escape Washington’s dictates, it would be wrong if the
food superpower Brazil, as a South American giant, did not also
distance itself from the geopolitical interests of the West and remember
what it really is: a power to be reckoned with.
publicado en Current Issues of Molecular Biology.
Enfermedades (CDC), no ocurriría.
respuesta a COVID-19”.

A "new financial order in the world" is coming and "the West will no longer play a leading role in it," said Dmitri Medvedev, former Russian president and current vice president of the country's Security Council, on Wednesday. "While our adversaries continue their unsuccessful work, the world is slowly moving towards a new logic of global economic relations and a renewed financial system," Medvedev said on his Telegram account.
According to the senior Russian official, the Anglo-Saxon hegemony “tarnished its reputation” by blocking the reserves of the Russian Central Bank. "It is impossible to trust those who freeze the accounts of other States, steal business assets and personal possessions of other people, compromising the principles of the sacred right of private property" and affirmed that the new order will be based on the countries that "have a strong and advanced economy, sound public finances and a solid monetary system”.
In addition to this, the vice president of the Russian Security Council pointed out that confidence in reserve currencies such as the dollar or the euro is being lost. "What kind of reserves are these if their obligations are frozen and effectively defaulted on by insane politicians who are willing to take their taxpayers' money, for the sake of an unknown victory in the war, to 'every last Ukrainian'?" I ask.
Medvedev added that, in any case, it will be necessary to “negotiate the new financial world order”.
